Siamo il Pipa Club Italia: parliamo di pipe, ma in più di ventiquattro lingue diverse, e la cosa fantastica è che ci capiamo!
Il Pipa Club Italia non è propriamente un Club: sì d’accordo, lo è nello spirito e nell’atteggiamento, ma sulla carta e da statuto, il PCIt è in effetti una federazione di Pipa Club dislocati su tutto il territorio italiano. Con l’arrivo del Pipa Club Campania nella Federazione, attualmente sono ventiquattro i Club che compongono il PCIt, dal Trentino alla Sicilia (potete trovare la lista completa, con tutti i recapiti e i riferimenti, cliccando sulla piccola pipa ). Più di ventiquattro dialetti diversi, ragazzi, dovreste vedere alle assemblee nazionali che spettacolo: ognuno parla nella sua lingua e gli altri che, bene o male, capiscono. Si può dire che il Pipa Club Italia è più di un Club… letteralmente.

Lo scopo primario della Federazione è la diffusione della cultura piparia attraverso il supporto ai Club che la compongono. È questa la forza, tanto del Pipa Club Italia, quanto di un Club federato al PCIt: il sapere che non è solo, che può contare sugli atri club. Che un Club che prepara un evento locale può fare affidamento sul supporto del Pipa Club Italia e la presenza degli altri Club affiliati. Che se un Club ha bisogno di un aiuto, può contare su un  un know how di conoscenze, esperienze e supporto operativo. Che il socio di un Club federato, quando va in trasferta in un’altra città, in un’altra regione, trova anche lì un punto di riferimento locale in cui è comunque a casa, e non è poco. Quello che fa la forza è la rete tra i vari Club.

Va detto, in Italia ci sono numerose realtà associative, ufficiali e non, che gravitano attorno alla pipa. Esistono molti Club, anche bellissimi e di tradizione, che non sono federati al Pipa Club Italia e va benissimo così. Dal canto nostro, tuttavia, avere un riferimento sul territorio, proprio per la forza della rete tra i Club, contribuisce allo sviluppo del Club locale, della Federazione e soprattutto della Cultura della Pipa, perché è questo ciò che conta. Non lo facciamo certo per piazzare bandierine su un enorme cartina geografica: da vecchio fan di Star Trek, preferisco pensare al PCIt più come alla Federazione dei Pianeti Uniti.

Ecco perché, a chi ci contatta per avere informazioni, ci piacerebbe rispondere: “Si, nella tua regione abbiamo un Pipa Club di riferimento, ecco i contatti”, anziché: “Ci spiace ma nella tua regione non abbiamo punti di riferimento da poter passare”.

Strictly speaking, Pipa Club Italia isn’t exactly a “club.” Yes, it is in spirit and in attitude, but on paper, and according it statute, the PCIt is actually a federation of Pipe Clubs spread across the whole of Italy. With Pipa Club Campania joining the Federation, there are now twenty-four clubs that make up the PCIt, from Trentino-Alto Adige all the way down to Sicily. More than twenty-four dialects, and you should see what it’s like at our national assemblies: everyone speaks their own way, but somehow, we all get it. In a very real sense, Pipa Club Italia is more than ONE, club… litterally.

The Federation’s main mission is to spread pipe culture by supporting its member clubs. That’s the real strength of Pipa Club Italia: knowing you’re not alone, that you can count on others. A club organizing a local event can rely on PCIt’s support and the presence of other affiliated clubs. If a club needs help, it can draw on a shared “know-how” of knowledge, experience, and hands-on support. And when a member of one club travels to another city or region, they can always find a local reference point where they feel at home, and that makes a huge difference. The real power lies in the network.

Of course, there are plenty of associations in Italy, official and unofficial, dedicated to pipes. Many beautiful and historic clubs aren’t part of PCIt, and that’s absolutely fine. But for us, having a reference point in each region, and building that network between clubs, helps local clubs grow, strengthens the Federation, and above all keeps the culture of the pipe alive. That’s what really matters. We’re not in this to stick flags on a map. As a longtime Star Trek fan, I prefer to think of PCIt as something closer to the Federation of United Planets.

That’s why, when someone reaches out for information, we’d much rather be able to say: “Yes, there’s a Pipa Club in your region, here are their contacts” instead of: “Sorry, we don’t have anyone there we can put you in touch with”.
